Campaign Dairy Number 1
Welcome to my first campaign diary for my D&D campaign. Being unsure of a title/name I will leave it at that.
Now for some background info, for the past term me and my D&D group have being playing a game DMd by me Anarax the dungeon master.
The story itself follows a group of adventures hired by the Baron of Benigar. (Credit to Matt Colville) The group saved a small keep which before the war was used as a trading post. Which brings us to the topic of the war.
You see some 40 years prior to the events of current the Warlock Varth'Zuan rose to power he then tried to take control of everything. Defeated by Benigar he fled and now is raising another army. But Benigar is old and can't fight back personally so he hired my players to save everything.
Leaving the keep the party went to Sturm governed by Benigars brother. There they met Ushtark a small monk who urged them to go to his monastery and rescue the monks held their in captivity.
For the past few sessions it has been fight after fight and the party is working their way through the monastery.
Bursting through one door to find a group of eight goblins my party was outnumbered and out gunned.
The bard who goes by the name Loravar reacted first and cast some form of illusion. He wanted a dragon to appear and scare the goblins. I thought that was kinda cool, but a dragon would be to big for a small creature/object. It occurs to me now he could have summoned a young dragon, but at the time I was thinking huge beast with rippling blue scales and lots of spikes.
I ruled their fore yes: he could have a dragon but it would be a head poking through the window.
Loravar then cast charm person and tried to convince the goblins that they were friends despite the corpses in the room behind them. The goblins were chattering and were scared their bravado disappearing quickly.
Loravar made a big thing of 'killing' the dragon and the goblins were convinced by their new saviour.
Looking at the options the party decided to send the goblins to clear out the floor of reaming monsters. Another dilemma.
Charm person states: (As far as I am aware) that any attempt to make a charmed person harm its companions will end the spell.
Then I realised this:
Level of Power in Varth'Zuans empire
Humans.
Orcs.
Hobgoblins.
Goblins.
The goblins are a the bottom of that list so I made the call that they could and would willingly strike back at the people in power. Goblins in my story I wrote as part of the world were regarded as slaves and the lowest of all the races as far as Varth'Zuan cares, they would want to fight back.
So now sooner than expected my party has a group of followers.
Any thoughts?
